Hatzalah in Haiti

Jan 24, 2010

When the news of the horrific earthquake in Haiti reached the ears of United Hatzalah medics, 2 thoughts came to mind. First, what can I do to help? Second, what if this G-d forbid would happen in Israel?

United Hatzalah's mission is to save lives and treat the sick and wounded in Israel. Nonetheless, as a humanitarian organization in a global village we feel the need to share our expertise and ability to save lives. A group of United Hatzalah medics who were in Mexico joined a flight with Mexican marines who flew in to help in the rescue.

In addition various medics who do their army service with the Home Front Command, 669 IAF medevac, and the USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) units have been tapped for service. Our reports from the field are similar to what you are reading in all the major news outlets and I don't have much to add from the news front, but I do want to express my pride in the activities of our volunteers who save lives wherever and whenever needed. Whether they are wearing the orange of United Hatzalah or the khaki of the IDF they are respected universally and are the pride of the Jewish people everywhere.
